Yesterday Was A Wonderful Day For Yesterday I Have Done Purchased A George Foreman Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine.

George!

Seriously, why I have never done this before?!?! I've been complaining for, oh, four years now about my lack of outside space and how much I miss grilling on the barbecue, but it never even OCCURED to me to get a counter-top grill. I mean, I know it's not the same but it's definitely better than nothing, and definitely gives me tonnes of new options for cooking healthy food.

Yesterday our inaugural meal was HAMBURGERS. I know, not the healthiest, but it's what we had on hand! Plus, uh, we were celebrating July 4th with you Americans! Yeah, that's it. :) Anyway, I was so excited I made Shaun take a picture. Here you can see our hideous kitchen featuring: the smallest amount of counter space known to man, and cupboard doors that never close! Also me, looking like a dork.

But anyway, the burgers turned out great! I even grilled the buns for a minute, which was such a nice switch from the normal microwave defrosting. I had mine with a bit of salsa and guacamole, and on the side I made a 'Fiesta Salad', (I don't know, I just made that name up!) with brown rice, black beans, mango, orange peppers, tomato, and carrots, plus a ton of chopped cilantro and a dressing of olive oil, lime juice, and chilli powder. 'Twas delish!

Do you have a counter-top grill? What's your favourite thing to cook on it? Any tips for a newbie like me?

I LOVE my Foreman Grill and I am jealous of all your counterspace. Yes, believe it or not I have LESS than that. I actually have to turn my grill SIDEWAYS in order to use it AND the back part kind of hangs over the sink.

I love making hamburgers on it, but I also cook my steaks, pork chops, veggies, EVERYTHING that can be grilled (and some that can't) gets a place on my Foreman Grill.

Oh, they also make fabulous Panini sandwiches. Slice of Italian or French bread, some ham/turkey/roast beef slices, some cheese (any type you like, I like swiss the best), and then you can also put on some tomatoes and onions. Build your sandwich while the grill heats up, place the sandwich on the grill until it's nice and toasted (usually about 3 minutes, but it can be longer). YUM! You can also make it all veggies, but I would never skip the cheese, that's what binds it all together.

I have the mini Foreman grill, I need to get a bigger one though. We usually do up burgers, chicken, pork chops and even kabobs. I like Jenni's idea of using it as a panini press, I'm going to try that :)

We've been looking at apartments and I get so disappointed when we find a really nice apartment but then when we check out the kitchen it's really, really small. I have a feeling it's going to take us awhile to find a place because I refuse to have a small kitchen. The kitchen we have right now is tiny and I can't stand it.

Jenni: Thanks, paninis are a great idea! I was just reading about a sandwich that had turkey, sliced pear, and brie, which I bet would be AWESOME on the grill. And my condolences about your counterspace, I don't know how you do it! :)

Crystal: I know what you mean, it's almost impossible here to find a decent kitchen, especially if you're looking at standard apartment buildings. You'd probably have better luck if you look into flats in houses, I've had great kitchens when I've lived in those kinds of places.
